Erode Turmeric is a highly prized variety of Curcuma longa grown in Erode, Tamil Nadu. It holds a Geographical Indication (GI) tag. The "Gattu" variety refers to the bulbous, round, unpolished rhizomes rather than the long fingers. Erode turmeric is famously bright golden-yellow with a slightly milder, earthier flavor compared to Salem turmeric. It is widely used in South Indian curries and Ayurvedic skin treatments (Ubtan).
